If you have recently gotten engaged, one of the first questions you are probably asking is how much a wedding actually costs. It is one of the most common questions couples ask when they first tour our farm.
The good news is that there is no single answer. Wedding budgets vary widely based on guest count, priorities, season and location. Understanding current costs can help you build a realistic budget and avoid surprises later. After hosting hundreds of weddings since 2017, we have learned that informed couples make better decisions and feel less stress along the way.
What is the average wedding cost
According to national wedding industry reports, the average wedding in the United States now ranges between $30,000 and $35,000. In Florida, many couples spend between $25,000 and $40,000, depending on guest count, venue selection, catering choices, entertainment, photography, floral design and attire. The largest expense is typically the venue and catering, which often account for 40 to 50 percent of the total budget.
The best wedding budgets reflect your own values rather than someone else's expectations.
A typical budget breakdown
For a wedding with 100 to 150 guests, couples often allocate their budget roughly as follows: venue, 15 to 25 percent; catering and bar, 25 to 35 percent; photography, 10 to 15 percent; entertainment, 5 to 10 percent; florals and decor, 8 to 15 percent; attire, 5 to 10 percent; stationery, 2 to 4 percent; and miscellaneous costs, 5 to 10 percent. Understanding these percentages helps couples decide where they want to invest the most.
Why venue choice matters
Many couples focus only on the rental cost when comparing venues, but what matters more is value. At our farm, couples receive twelve hours of venue access, ceremony seating, reception tables and chairs, the bridal suite, the groom's room, setup and breakdown, large decor pieces, access to our decor closet, rehearsal time and engagement photo access. When you compare venues, calculate what is included against what you would have to rent separately.
How couples save thousands
Couples are becoming more intentional with spending. Popular strategies include a Friday or Sunday wedding, seasonal flowers, a smaller bridal party, DIY personal touches, and choosing an a la carte venue, which lets you prioritize the vendors that matter most instead of paying for bundled services you may not want.
Budget for what matters most
Every couple has different priorities. Some invest heavily in photography because the images last. Others focus on guest experience, food or entertainment. The best wedding budgets reflect your own values rather than someone else's expectations.
